Fish in the Agora

These are the various fish they sell. It depends upon the season what fish they will have, though they do sell some frozen fish. But most of it is fresh, some of it caught that morning or the evening before and brought in by boat and truck in the early hours.

Barbounia-Red Mullett: Generally the 
best tasting and most expensive fish.

Sardelles-Sardines: Usually from
Mytilini(Lesvos), Volos or Evia

Catfish

Gopa are inexpensive and delcious

There are several different kinds of mackeral.

O forget what these are. Maybe Lithrinia.

These are the bottoms of Octopus.
Some are local but a lot come from the Atlantic.

There are several varieties of tuna.
This is lakerda from Halkida

Soupia may look like kalamari but they are different.
They are actually cuttlefish and are delcious grilled.

or dried and salted

Pestrofo-trout from the lakes of northern
Greece, generally farmed.

Gavros-anchovies: Great fried

Eels are not common on the Greek table
but they are sold in the market

Koutsoumoura are like barbounia but not as expensive.
